Smith Machine Stiff-Legged Deadlift

Machine Hamstrings

The Smith Machine Stiff-Legged Deadlift is a strength movement that targets your hamstrings. Here's how to do it with clean form.

How to do the Smith Machine Stiff-Legged Deadlift

  1. Set the bar at hip height, grip just outside hip-width, and stand with a slight bend in the knees.
  2. Hinge at the hips, pushing them back as you lower the bar along your legs.
  3. Stop when you feel a strong hamstring stretch — typically mid-shin — then drive hips forward to stand.
  4. Keep your spine neutral throughout; don't round the lower back chasing extra range.
