Standing Barbell Calf Raise

Barbell Calves

The Standing Barbell Calf Raise is a strength movement that targets your calves. Here's how to do it with clean form.

How to do the Standing Barbell Calf Raise

  1. Position the barbell across your upper back and stand with the balls of your feet on a raised surface, heels hanging off.
  2. Lower your heels as far as your range allows for a full stretch.
  3. Drive up onto your toes and squeeze your calves hard at the top.
  4. Control the descent — do not bounce at the bottom.
