Standing Military Press

Barbell Shoulders

The Standing Military Press is a strength movement that targets your shoulders. Here's how to do it with clean form.

How to do the Standing Military Press

  1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, barbell racked at upper chest, grip just outside shoulder width.
  2. Brace your core and glutes — avoid arching your lower back.
  3. Press the bar straight overhead until elbows lock out, moving your head back slightly to clear the bar.
  4. Lower the bar to the upper chest in a controlled descent before each rep.
